Find out what's happening at St George's!
Last week two members of staff and three students from St George’s travelled to the Greek capital Athens as part of the school’s Erasmus + project. Students were hosted for the week by the families of students from a Greek school, the 4th Geniko Lykeio, in the Eastern suburb of Zagrafou. The project, entitled ‘Ready, Steady, Work!’ focuses on preparing young people for further study and eventually for the workplace, and has already seen student visits to Cartagena in Spain and to Zory in Poland.
40 students from Greece, Croatia, Spain and Poland, as well as from Luxembourg, took part in the Athens visit. During the mornings they participated in workshops in school, developing a range of skills needed not only in writing both CVs and job applications, but also in an interview situation. Visits during the week included a trip to the University of Piraeus for a talk from the Careers Department and a session with the National Centre for Qualifications looking at the European Common Framework for Qualifications.
On top of this, students had a guided tour of the Acropolis and a visit to the stunning Acropolis Museum. They also visited the recently completed Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre, which houses both the Greek National Library and the Greek National Library. The final day saw a further visit to the ancient town of Napflion, the former capital of Greece, on the Argolic Gulf.
