St George's News
Find out what's happening at St George's!
Year 10 Media students were busy this week capturing around 100 shots of various staff and students letting loose their inner rock gods! They were set the challenge of filming footage for a complete video of the timeless Slade classic Merry Christmas Everyone, with suitable props and costumes, against a green screen.
The ridge in the wall and lighting mean the footage won’t be perfectly ‘keyed’, and the narrow width available posed a challenge with the more energetic guitarists and Noddy Holders … but the Media students managed to capture two or more takes for every line of the song over break and lunch on Monday and Tuesday. As well as students from across Secondary, they persuaded a range of teaching, admin, and support staff to come and look a little bit silly while busting a few moves, and some of those grooves were quite spectacular!
That’s only the beginning of the work though – Mr Burrowes has viewed and renamed every shot, put into folders for automatic ‘tagging’ in Final Cut Pro X (the software we use in Media for film/video editing) and each student has taken a section of the track to edit, a process that will mainly take place during lunchtimes, with only 3 Media lessons left. Their challenge now, despite limited previous editing experience, is to complete the edit in time for the final assembly next week! All being well, a link will be tweeted (@STGeorges_LUX) and put on the website for viewing the final video on Friday 22nd!
Well done to the Media students for going the extra mile with this project, and my thanks to all those students and staff colleagues who volunteered to appear!
Mr Burrowes, Media Studies
